Jack H. Mowen

Jack Mowen, (the third of a four generation perfumer family)

  

      Jack died peacefully at the age of 87 with his family by his side on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Stratford Court Nursing Home in Palm Harbor, FL. Jack is formally of Wall Township, Brielle, Point Pleasant. Manasquan and Pompton Plains, NJ. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and valued friend. Jack was born on July 30, 1929.  He graduated from Nutley High School, Nutley, NJ, and attended Tempe College, AZ.  Jack served in the United States Army serving in the Korean War - Honorably Discharged on January 18, 1957. His career in perfumery began at Givaudan and then Firmenich, Inc., which took him and his family to Geneva, Switzerland for 1 ½ years. Thereafter, his career continued at Naarden International; Takasago, Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, Inc.; Fragrance Resources and after retirement consulted at Atlantis Aromatics, Farmingdale, NJ. His career boasts a Lifetime Achievement Award which he received February 8, 2010. Jack is one of the foremost creative perfumers in the world 56th Annual Fragrance SymposiumFebruary 8, 2010.  

Jack began his perfumery training at Givaudan; then was invited to join Firmenich in Geneva where his considerable talents were cultivated. Upon his return to the US, his career as an industry executive and chief creative perfumer commenced. Jack has created fragrances not only for the US market, but he spent many years in Europe and Asia developing his keen awareness of international fragrance trends.

  

He was successful in creating fragrances for major perfume houses and toiletry company giants, i.e. Gillette, Noxell, Unilever, Shulton, and S.C. Johnson. Just a few of the fragrances he created over the years are; Cachet for Prince Matchabelli, Geminesse for Max Factor, Tempo for Avon, White Shoulders, Jasmine Cologne for Quintessence, Right Guard for Gillette, Pear Glace for Victoria Secret.

 

Jack is predeceased by his loving wife Virginia and parents Florence and Charles LeRoy Mowen.  He is survived by his children: Jill Grammer(husband Brian) DE; Jacque Allen, (husband Todd) FL; Cindy McChesney, (husband Wayne) NJ; Kim Hayek, (husband Alex) NJ; son, Jeffrey Mowen, (wife Betsy EgerterNJ; and sister Jane Mann(husband Dave) FL.  He is also survived by 5 nieces, 3 nephews, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildrenand extended family and friends who loved him deeply.

 

He treasured his family, loved fishing, golfing, the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, old John Wayne filmsbut most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His strength and wisdom were an inspiration to all who knew him. 


Angela Kohut Joins the Atlantis Team!

Angela Kohut has dedicated her entire career to the fragrance industry.  With over 15 years in fragrance development and a strong ingredient knowledge, she assists a wide range of companies in the development of fragranced products.

She began her career at Aroma Tech, Inc, now Agilex Flavors and Fragrances, under the tutelage of the Vice President of Perfumery, Alice Rebeck.  Starting out as a lab tech, her superiors saw raw talent.  After a promotion to lab manager she began training in the art of perfumery, which included intensive raw material exposure, solving stability and pricing issues, and keeping up with regulatory changes.  After 9 years at Aroma Tech Angela moved to Manheimer Fragrances.  Continuing her tutelage under the President of Perfumery, Steven Claisse, she learned how to interpret what clients needs are and expanded her experience into national brands.  She continued creating for Shaw Mudge and Quest International.

Angela Kohut is currently the chairman for the American Society of Perfumers.   Her service to the American Society of Perfumers spans 10 years with board positions as Director, Secretary and President.  Angela is also instrumental in organizing many ASP events. She is a wife and mother of two beautiful girls and active in various organizations.
